Too Close to a Black Hole

NASA APOD · Robert Nemiroff, (GMU, NASA/ GSFC)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Imagine looking at the sky near a black hole. Gravity bends light so severely that familiar constellations, like Orion, would look distorted. The black hole's immense gravity acts like a lens, warping the paths of photons around it. This computer simulation shows how a star field would appear, with stars seemingly displaced or even duplicated.
