In 1994, the Clementine probe mapped the Moon's surface for 70 days. This composite image, made from 1500 Clementine pictures, shows the Moon's South Pole. A large depression near the pole, likely from an impact, is visible. The shadows in this region are extensive, suggesting permanently shadowed areas.
