COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet Hyakutake was a spectacular comet discovered in early 1996. It made a very close approach to Earth, becoming easily visible to the naked eye. This photograph shows the comet as a fuzzy spot, just after its discovery. Astronomers were surprised by its rapid brightening and close passage.
