COSMIC MESSAGE
This unusual structure houses the three largest solar telescopes in the world, located in Kitt Peak, Arizona. The largest, 1.6 meters in diameter, uses only mirrors, as lenses would overheat from the sun's brightness. In this sunrise photo, the Moon and Venus are visible in the background. These telescopes are used for many research projects, including determining the Sun's rotation.
