The Keyhole Nebula Near Eta Carinae

NASA APOD · Anglo-Australian Telescope Board
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Keyhole Nebula, also known as NGC 3324, is a dark, dusty region within the larger Eta Carina Nebula. Its distinctive shape gives it its name. The Eta Carina Nebula is the largest nebula in angular extent in the sky, surpassing even the Orion Nebula. The star Eta Carinae itself has faded significantly over the past 150 years, though it was once one of the brightest stars.
