COSMIC MESSAGE
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope captured this image of Comet Hyakutake's near-nuclear region on March 25, when the comet was 9.3 million miles from Earth. The image covers a 2,000-mile-wide area, with the sunward direction towards the lower right. It shows significant amounts of dust jetting from the sunward side of the nucleus as the Sun heats this orbiting iceberg. Sunlight pressure eventually pushes the dust into the tail.
