NASA's Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UIT) captured these spiral galaxies from the Space Shuttle Columbia. Flying above Earth's atmosphere, UIT imaged these distant spirals in the ultraviolet light of hot, young stars. These bright, newly formed stars highlight the spiral arms where they are born.
