The COMPTEL Gamma-Ray Sky
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The COMPTEL instrument on NASA's Compton Gamma Ray Observatory produced this premier gamma-ray view of the sky. The image shows the entire sky, centered on our Milky Way Galaxy, with the galactic plane running across the middle. Gamma-ray intensity is represented by a false-color map, from low (blue) to high (white). COMPTEL's sensitivity reveals gamma-rays with over a million times the energy of visible light photons.
