The Pipe Dark Nebula

NASA APOD · Jerry Lodriguss
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Pipe Nebula, a dark absorption nebula, dominates the lower left of this image. Its dark clouds are caused by dust blocking background starlight, appearing like smoke rising from a pipe. The bright star Antares is visible, surrounded by red emission and blue reflection nebulae.
