Mir Dreams
The Space Shuttle Atlantis approached the Russian Space Station Mir in 1996, creating this dream-like image. Mir's solar panels and modules made it look like a whimsical insect above New Zealand's South Island. Atlantis was on mission STS-76 to deliver astronaut Shannon W. Lucid for a 140-day stay.
