M74 is a spiral galaxy, much like our own Milky Way, but seen face-on. It is classified as an Sc galaxy because of its open arms and small central bulge. The blue areas in this image show ultraviolet light, which highlights younger, hotter stars. Older, cooler stars appear red in visible light.
