COSMIC MESSAGE

The Hubble Space Telescope caught Jupiter's volcanic moon Io and its shadow earlier this summer. Io is visible above and right of center, while its shadow appears as a black dot on Jupiter's clouds. Io's shadow, 2,262 miles in diameter, races across the swirling cloud tops at about 38,000 miles per hour. Scenes like this occur when Jupiter, Io, and the Sun align.
