COSMIC MESSAGE
M16, the Eagle Nebula, is a star cluster embedded in a spectacular emission nebula. This region, about 7,000 light-years distant in Serpens, is a stellar nursery. Young, bright stars in the cluster are just above and to the right of the image's center. These open clusters typically contain a few hundred stars, all born from the same cloud of gas and dust.
