COSMIC MESSAGE
The Eagle Nebula, also known as M16, is a star-forming region 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Serpens. The Hubble Space Telescope captured these towering pillars of gas and dust, often called 'elephant trunks.' Within these structures, dense knots of gas, known as evaporating gaseous globules or EGGs, are the birthplaces of new stars. The image provides a direct look at stars emerging from their stellar nurseries.
