COSMIC MESSAGE
The Sleeping Beauty Galaxy, M64, looks peaceful, but its core rotates in the opposite direction from its outer regions. Even stranger, a middle region has stars rotating opposite to its surrounding gas and dust. These fascinating internal motions are likely the result of a past galactic merger. M64 is about 17 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices.
