Venus is perpetually cloudy, as seen in this ultraviolet image from the 1979 Pioneer Venus Orbiter. Though similar to Earth in size and mass, Venus's closer orbit to the Sun creates a much thicker atmosphere and hotter surface. This thick atmosphere contributes to its extremely uncomfortable climate.
