The galaxies NGC 4038 and NGC 4039 are colliding, forming the wreckage known as "The Antennae." As gravity pulls them apart, gas clouds slam into each other, creating bright blue knots. These knots are large clusters of newly formed stars embedded in vast regions of ionized hydrogen.
