Mars: A Journey's End

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Mars Pathfinder spacecraft is nearing the end of its seven-month journey, scheduled to land on Mars tomorrow, July 4th. This Hubble Space Telescope image of Mars, taken a few days ago, shows the weather conditions. The Pathfinder landing site, in the ancient floodplain Ares Vallis, is just right of center, about 500 miles southeast of where Viking 1 landed in 1976. Water ice clouds are visible, along with the Martian north polar cap.
