Welcome to Planet Earth, the third planet from the Sun. Earth is shaped like a sphere and is mostly rock, with over 70 percent of its surface covered by water. It has a relatively thin atmosphere, mostly nitrogen and oxygen. Earth has one large Moon, about a quarter of its diameter, which appears to be almost the same angular size as the Sun from Earth's surface.
