The Dunes Of Mars
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The North Pole of Mars is ringed by a 'sea of sand dunes.' As spring begins in Mars' Northern Hemisphere, increased sunlight shrinks the polar cap, revealing these wind-swept dunes. This close-up from the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft shows a region about 1.2 miles across, with dunes formed by winds generally blowing from the southwest.
