The Sun Erupts
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Sun, a seething ball of hot gas, was captured by Skylab in 1973 throwing off one of the largest eruptive prominences in recorded history. The Sun has existed for about 5 billion years and will likely continue for another 5 billion. It is not on fire and will not explode. Scientists continue to study its magnetic field and the extreme heat of its corona.
