Mariner's Mercury

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mercury is the innermost planet in our solar system, making it hard to observe from Earth. Mariner 10 was the only spacecraft to get a close look, flying past Mercury three times in 1974 and 1975. It mapped about 45 percent of the planet's surface. This image is one of the closest views we had for decades.
