In 1054 AD, Chinese astronomers documented a new bright star in Taurus, which we now know was a supernova. The Crab Nebula is the expanding remnant of that explosion. At its heart lies a pulsar, a rapidly rotating neutron star, which is one of the most exotic objects discovered in the 20th century.
