Star Trails in Northern Skies

NASA APOD · David Malin
COSMIC MESSAGE

As the Earth spins, the sky appears to rotate around us, creating the star trails seen in this time exposure. The North Celestial Pole is the center of these arcs. The short, bright trail near the pole was made by Polaris, also known as the North Star. This image captures the apparent motion of the stars over time.
