18 Miles From Deimos
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Deimos is the smaller of Mars' two tiny moons, a potato-shaped body barely 6 miles wide. The Viking 2 orbiter visited it in 1977, taking this image from just 18 miles above its surface. It's one of the most detailed pictures of a celestial body ever taken by an orbiting spacecraft. Craters and large chunks of rock are visible across the less than square mile field of view.
