On November 6, 1997, the SOHO spacecraft recorded this massive eruption from the Sun. This composite image combines data from two SOHO instruments, showing the ultraviolet Sun at the center and a large, expanding cloud of material. This event, a Coronal Mass Ejection or CME, sends energetic particles out into space.
