COSMIC MESSAGE

The Space Shuttle Discovery, seen here both on the launch pad and blasting off, carried Senator John Glenn back into space. This mission, STS-95, occurred over 36 years after Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth. In 1962, he flew solo, but for this mission, he was part of a seven-person crew, conducting scientific experiments.
