John Glenn: Friendship 7 To Discovery

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

John Glenn, the first American in orbit, trained in a cramped capsule for his 1962 flight aboard Friendship 7. An Atlas rocket launched him into space, where he orbited Earth three times at an altitude of 120 miles. He returned safely with a splashdown in the Atlantic Ocean. Thirty-six years later, Senator Glenn prepared for another historic return to space.
