COSMIC MESSAGE
Gamma-ray bursts are powerful, high-energy events in the sky. On Saturday, a brief, intense flash of gamma-rays triggered space-based detectors. The Compton Observatory's BATSE instrument quickly relayed the burst's location to ground-based cameras. The ROTSE-I telephoto array recorded a detection just 22 seconds after the burst.
