Hot Gas and Dark Matter
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
This image combines an optical view of galaxies with X-ray data from the ROSAT satellite. The red glow shows hot gas trapped by the cluster's gravity. This gas is so hot it emits X-rays. The presence of this gas indicates that the total gravitational pull of the galaxy cluster is much greater than the visible galaxies alone. This extra gravity is attributed to dark matter.
