COSMIC MESSAGE
If you could see gamma rays, the Moon would appear brighter than the Sun. This image from the EGRET instrument on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory shows how the Moon glows with high-energy photons. The Moon is bright in gamma rays because it reflects cosmic rays, which then produce gamma rays when they hit the lunar surface. The quiet Sun, by contrast, is very faint at these extreme energies.
