COSMIC MESSAGE
The Horsehead Nebula in Orion, also known as Barnard 33, is one of the most recognizable nebulae in the sky. It's a dark, molecular cloud, its unusual shape first seen on a photographic plate in the late 1800s. The red glow comes from hydrogen gas behind the nebula, ionized by the star Sigma Orionis. The Horsehead's darkness is mostly due to thick dust.
