Tharsis Volcanos

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mars's Tharsis region hosts immense volcanoes, including Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in the solar system. This image from the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft shows ice crystal clouds floating above these structures. These clouds form as warm, moist Martian air rises along the volcanic slopes, cools, and condenses into ice crystals. Olympus Mons, at the upper left, is 340 miles across and nearly 15 miles high.
