COSMIC MESSAGE
Venus, the second planet from the Sun, is a common waypoint for spacecraft heading to the outer solar system. Spacecraft use a 'gravity assist' maneuver, swinging by planets to gain energy and save fuel for later in their journey. This colorized image of Venus was taken by the Jupiter-bound Galileo spacecraft shortly after its gravity assist flyby in February 1990.
