Mars Volcano Apollinaris Patera

Apollinaris Patera, a Martian volcano, rises about three miles into the thin atmosphere. It is dwarfed by larger structures like Olympus Mons, but bright water-ice clouds still hover around its summit. These volcanic structures, known as "paterae," are older than the shield volcanoes, with ages estimated around three billion years. Narrow furrows typically extend from their central craters.
