The Chandra X-ray Observatory, launched in July 1999, has given us an unprecedented look at the X-ray universe. It detects X-rays from extremely hot regions of space, like exploding stars and galaxy clusters. Before Chandra, much of the X-ray sky was a mystery. This instrument continues to help us understand some of the most energetic phenomena in the cosmos.
