This is Cassiopeia A, the first image from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. It shows the remains of a star that exploded about 300 years ago. The image reveals shock waves expanding at 10 million miles per hour, heating the gas to X-ray temperatures. Cassiopeia A is about 10 light-years across.
