COSMIC MESSAGE
The Cocoon Nebula, IC 5146, is a star-forming region about 4,000 light-years away in Cygnus. It is nearly 15 light-years wide. Like other such regions, it glows red from hydrogen gas excited by hot, young stars. Dust reflects starlight at the edge of an otherwise invisible molecular cloud, where a new cluster of stars is developing.
