COSMIC MESSAGE
Diffuse starlight and dark nebulae of the southern Milky Way arc across this nightscape. This 100-degree mosaic features the rugged terrain of Patagonia, Argentina, in the foreground. Besides our own galaxy, the image shows the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, two irregular satellite galaxies. The scene also captures the broad tail and bright coma of Comet Nishimura.
