NASA APOD · CNES
COSMIC MESSAGE

From the Mir space station, the shadow of the Moon darkens Earth during a total solar eclipse. The shadow moves at nearly 2,000 kilometers per hour. Only those directly under the dark circle see the Sun completely blocked. This image from August 11, 1999, was one of the last captured by Mir before its deorbit.
