COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet Hale-Bopp was one of the brightest comets of the 20th century. It was visible to the naked eye for many months in 1997. This image captures it over the Superstition Mountains in Arizona. The comet displayed two distinct tails: a white dust tail reflecting sunlight and a blue ion tail glowing from energized gas.
