The Incredible Expanding Cat's Eye
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Cat's Eye Nebula, NGC 6543, is an expanding gaseous shroud shed by a dying star. This animation, created from Hubble Space Telescope images taken in 1994 and 1997, shows the intricate filaments of the nebula shifting. This shift is due to the actual expansion of the gas as the central star evolves from a red giant.
