Eclipse Over The Mountain

NASA APOD · Mack H. Frost
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Moon performed a lunar eclipse on July 28, just two weeks before the August 11 total solar eclipse. Crossing the edge of Earth's shadow, the Moon was only partially eclipsed. This photo was taken in the early morning shortly after the midpoint of the eclipse, as seen from Cody, Wyoming. The Moon still illuminated the landscape, obscured by a wisp of cloud.
