The Quintuplet Star Cluster

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Bright clusters of stars form and disperse near the center of our galaxy. The Quintuplet Cluster, pictured here, formed four million years ago and is now slowly dispersing. It is located within 100 light-years of the Galactic center and is home to the Pistol Star, the brightest star yet cataloged in our galaxy. This picture was taken in infrared light, allowing us to see through the dust that usually obscures the region.
