The Averted Side Of The Moon

COSMIC MESSAGE

Forty years ago, on October 7, 1959, the Soviet Luna 3 probe took the first pictures of the Moon's far side. Before then, no human had seen this hemisphere. Luna 3 developed the film on board, then scanned the images and transmitted them back to Earth. This achievement was celebrated on a Soviet 60-kopek stamp.
