Mercury And The Sun

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Days before the Leonid meteor shower, Mercury offered another celestial treat, crossing the face of the Sun on November 15, 1999. This event, known as a transit, occurs when Mercury passes directly between the Sun and Earth. While not rare, it requires a filtered telescope to observe the small, dark silhouette of Mercury against the vast solar disk. The next transit will be in 2003.
