A Sirius Leonid Meteor
NASA APOD · Wally Pacholka
COSMIC MESSAGE
The 1998 Leonid meteor shower produced many bright fireballs, like the one captured in this time-exposure. The meteor's trail appears to leap from Sirius, the brightest star in Canis Major. This image, taken over the desert landscape of Arizona, shows the dramatic path of a meteoroid burning up in Earth's atmosphere. The Leonids are known for their fast-moving and often brilliant meteors.
