IC 4406: A Seemingly Square Nebula

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

IC 4406 is a planetary nebula with a seemingly square shape, located about 2,000 light-years away. While it appears square from our vantage point, it is likely a cylindrical structure. Hot gas flows out from the ends of this cylinder, while filaments of dark dust and molecular gas form its bounding walls. The central star is responsible for sculpting this interstellar gas.
