The NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft flew within 200 kilometers of asteroid Eros' west end, capturing a time-lapse sequence. This condensed 40-minute view shows the asteroid's rotation, with its north pole oriented towards the bottom of the image. NEAR Shoemaker continued to orbit Eros, getting as close as 50 kilometers from its center to study its composition and structure.
