A Green Flash from the Sun
NASA APOD · Juan Carlos Casado
COSMIC MESSAGE
The green flash is real, not a myth. Just as the setting sun disappears, or the rising sun first appears, a final or initial glimmer of green light is sometimes visible. This atmospheric effect is caused by the way Earth's atmosphere bends sunlight, like a lens. It typically lasts only a few seconds and is best seen from locations with a clear, distant horizon.
